Paradigm Education Solutions, a division of Kendall Hunt, announced that its Engagement Tool was selected as a finalist in the 2021 EdTech Cool Tools Awards program in the following categories:
- Communications Solution
- eLearning, Blended, or Flipped Solution
- Resources/Other Helpful Tools for Education
The Engagement Tool instantly transforms any smart device into a multi-purpose course companion that allows learners to follow along with lecture slides and videos, tracking their retention as they go.
More secure, cost-effective, and reliable than other options on the market, the Engagement Tool contains live quizzes, class polls, opportunities to ask questions in real-time, and more. This solution is ideal for in-person, online, and hybrid courses.
This is the second year in a row that one of Paradigm’s technology platforms was recognized as a finalist in the EdTech Cool Tools Awards program. In 2020, Paradigm achieved recognition for its Cirrus learning environment.
Celebrating its 11th year, the EdTech Awards program is the largest recognition program in all of education technology, recognizing the biggest names in edtech—and those who soon will be.
“The worldwide pandemic put education and training to the test, but remote learning and working—in many unexpected ways—ultimately brought us closer,” said Victor Rivero, who as Editor-in-Chief of EdTech Digest, oversees the program.
“Trying times revealed strengths and capabilities of people, and workability of products. Leaders and innovators with their tools and techniques worked hard to keep the learning world connected to knowledge and each other. As so many have shown, nothing can stop the human spirit—and we continue to move forward,” Rivero said.
The EdTech Awards recognizes people in and around education for outstanding contributions in transforming education through technology to enrich the lives of learners everywhere.
If you are interested in learning more about the Engagement Tool and seeing a demo of it, please contact your Paradigm account manager.
Paradigm Education Solutions is developing a new edition of Exploring Electronic Health Records and its EHR Navigator application. Available for Spring 2022 classes, this courseware provides students with the instruction and hands-on practice needed to build in-demand EHR skills.
Complete course content is delivered through Paradigm’s Cirrus learning environment and includes access to the EHR Navigator application. Modeled on real EHR software, the EHR Navigator replicates professional practice and prepares students to use EHRs within inpatient, outpatient, and long-term care settings.
The new Third Edition of the courseware has been updated and enhanced with a variety of features. These include:
- a new chapter 12 and activities related to data analytics.
- a new chapter 14 on eHealth and population health.
- updates related to policy and industry standards (e.g., 21st Century Cures Act and its Final Rule).
- coverage of software and hardware advancements, plus technology related to virtual healthcare services.
- the previous edition’s nursing supplement, which is now integrated into the student textbook.
In the EHR Navigator, the following modules expand the discussion and understanding of data analytics. Each report is accompanied by a case study that prompts students to synthesize data and create a plan to address opportunities for improving health outcomes. All reports can be downloaded and opened in Microsoft Excel to further analyze the data.
- Smoking Cessation—Study the prevalence of smoking in the community, sort and filter the report by age, gender, and smoking level (frequency).
- Immunization Rates—Review the immunization records for patients, discover the reasons why some patients declined their immunizations, and use the data to develop a strategy for educating the community on the importance of vaccines.
- Hospital Readmissions—Search for readmissions related to heart failure and review the known chronic conditions, current medications, discharge disposition, and length of stay.
Educators interested in learning more about this courseware and using it in their program can contact their Paradigm account manager to request a digital sample of the new edition.

Short-term study abroad programs, lasting 10-14 days, are growing in popularity for two year colleges. J-Terms or May terms at universities are also great options for students who may not be able to commit to a full semester or year abroad.
Preparing students for travel involves teaching about the culture and history of the place he/she will visit, and it’s also important to include discussions of everyday situations they will encounter in their travels.
This FREE 30-minute webinar describes how to teach survival language, using money, personal safety, navigating transportation systems, packing, and getting along with others in the group.
Another element to enhance a short-term study abroad program is for students to create their own professional development project that can help them with their careers after graduation.
Hazel Scott of New College Lanarkshire in Scotland will pop into our webinar to talk about her college’s study abroad preparations.
There’s a lot of great experiences to be had in a short amount of time!
Careful planning will help students get the most out of their programs.

Does the traditional introductory psychology course meet APA’s learning objectives for scientific thinking? Do students leave this course with a solid understanding of the science of behavior, or any practical experience designing, evaluating, or conducting scientific research? Is it even possible to gain such understanding or experience in a lecture-based course?
In an ideal world, students should have opportunities to ask empirical questions about behavior, make predictions, collect data, and interpret the results of different types of research. But three hours of class time per week is barely enough to scratch the surface of psychology’s content! Substantive, hands-on experience with scientific philosophy and practice seems impossible.
Biology, physics, and chemistry, among other sciences, have solved this problem by adding required lab components to their introductory courses. It’s time for Psychology to do the same.
In this FREE 30-Minute Webinar, the expert panelist will discuss at least eight good reasons Intro Psych should be taught with a lab component, some of the challenges involved, and how those challenges can be met in designing an enjoyable and effective education in natural science for introductory psychology students.
