This Teacher’s Guide is formatted for use in the Catholic high school with highlights for use in parish-based programs. You will notice a shaded bar in the left hand column accompanying certain steps in each lesson plan. This represents the steps to follow in covering each chapter when conducting this course in a parish program. For example, we may suggest the parish based programs cover a certain chapter by using two steps in each of the lesson plans designed for Catholic high school use. Be sure that following our suggested steps will enable your students to access the core content of each chapter in an engaging manner.
Understanding the Catechism: Creed can be covered in parish based programs through weekly catechetical lessons, overnight catechetical weekends, or summer seminars. Regardless of your format, you should plan on setting aside eighteen hours of instruction to cover the ten chapters in this book and the eight video segments. Having participants read certain segments of this book before coming to a catechetical lesson may or may not be reasonable, depending on your situation.
As always, read the complete lesson plan and preparation notes as you and/or your catechists prepare in order to gain the complete picture of the content and objectives of each chapter. You may also find it necessary to expand on some aspects of a chapter more than others, based on your students’ past religious education background and knowledge.
